Why “Skinny” Is Trending Again — And What It Means for Women’s Health

Just when we were starting to celebrate women being STRONG it feels like we’ve taken a step backwards.
The rise of SkinnyTok and the increasing normalisation of rapid weight-loss injections is hard to ignore.
Bouncing back and bodies shrinking quickly are being celebrated again.
But fast weight loss does not equal better health.
And it definitely doesn’t equal better long-term results.

What Rapid Weight Loss Actually Does
When you:
Lose weight too quickly (by any method)
Don’t prioritise protein
Stop strength training while dieting
Yes, the scale will drop.
But you won’t just lose fat.
You’ll lose muscle too.
And that has serious consequences for both your long term health and weight management.
You might look smaller.
But that doesn’t mean you’re healthier.
Why Muscle Loss Is A Big Problem
Muscle is not just about aesthetics.
Muscle:
Supports your metabolism
Protects your joints
Improves insulin sensitivity
Increases strength and mobility
Future-proofs your body as you age
When you lose muscle, your metabolism drops.
And when the weight comes back either after the diet ends, when you go on holiday or stop the injections - the weight you regain is purely fat. Not muscle.
Muscle only comes back if you actively train to rebuild it.
So you can end up back at your starting weight, with more body fat, less muscle and lower metabolism
That’s terrible news for:
Long-term metabolic health
Strength and mobility
Energy levels
Your ability to eat flexibly without constant restriction
Muscle Matters (Especially For Mums)
The more muscle you have:
The higher your resting metabolism
The more food you can eat while maintaining your weight
The stronger and more resilient your body becomes
And as a mum?
Strength matters.
Lifting toddlers.
Carrying car seats.
Running around parks.
Managing broken sleep.
This is about quality of life, not just how you look in photos.
So here’s a little plea from me…
Please don’t get pulled into quick fix diet culture. Fast results don’t promise sustainability.
They don’t protect your muscle mass, they don’t build resilience, they don’t teach you how to fuel your body properly and they certainly don’t support long-term health.
Prioritise strength training.
Prioritise protein.
Fuel your body with nutritious food.
Move more consistently.
Take the steady route.
It may feel slower right now - especially when rapid transformation is glorified but in the long term?
You’ll have:
A stronger metabolism
A more capable body
Better health markers
Sustainable results
Real confidence
Slow, (STRONG) and steady…wins the race.
