Doing the Hard Thing: Why The Least Favourite Workout Is Often The One You Need Most

Not all workouts are fun.
But often, it’s the ones we dread the most that are exactly what we need.
This week, I tackled mine (6x 800m of sprint intervals) at the start of my training week, when I felt a little fresher, instead of leaving it for tired legs.
And yes—it was tough.
But these sessions? I know they’re making me a faster runner.
For years, I used to train for runs by just… running. No pacing, no structure, no splits. I’d just go a little longer each time. And it worked… to a point.
Now, with such limited time to train, every workout needs to be efficient and effective.
Hard? Absolutely.
Fun? Not my favourite.
But I got it done, pushed myself outside my comfort zone, and know my body is learning and adapting with every session.

That’s the thing about results, they come from doing the hard stuff.
